Four Clover for Luck

Today, a little bit before five o'clock, I found a four-clover on the farm. What a beautiful reminder of how lucky I am in my life
Have a lovely sunday everybody!

Life on a Farm

I found the farm where I'm staying right now through the organization WWOOF (Willing Workers on Organic Farms), which means that what I do is volunteer work. The farm in which I live on now is located in a small village called Amamoor, half an hour outside Gympie. We have no mobile reception, except a little bit up on a hill 600m into my host family's property. And the Internet is limited because they are paying per megabyte. It is tough to get used to, but it's nice to not be online and updated all the time. Having the time to think and get to know yourself and reflect on your own feelings without having to put those on Facebook. Nonsense!

The family consists of father Heinz, mother Angela, 15 year old son Mitchel and 19 year old daughter Leslie. Both parents are from Switzerland, but the mother has Italian family. She has family in South America, Italy and Switzerland. Dad Heinz is from Switzerland. I haven't met their daughter since she is in Europe now backpacking and getting to know her Italian and Swiss; roots. The son i very tall (taller than me), he eats a lot and he's in the "tourette"-age (that age I went through where you simply scream and make weird sounds all the time), though he is a nice guy. The family has previously lived in the United States where both kids were born, but they moved to Australia ten years ago. Both the father and mother are very nice. The father is doing "house healings" alongside the farm; but not the kind of healings where you literally heal the house, but rather to get rid of bad energies in a house. For example if there once was a family living in that house that argued a lot or someone had cancer, and certain parts of the house are characterized by the bad energy. So what he does is to "heal" the bad energy so that the people currently living in the house can sleep well at night and not become ill or depressed. Damn interesting to listen to. He also does chakra cleansings on people (Chakra is what is used in meditation and yoga or spiritualism to describe the different energies that people have in the body, which should preferably be in balance with each other in order to feel at peace). I've asked him to do it on me someday :) Exciting!

The farm itself has persimmons as its main fruit but they also grow peaches and nectarines, which we are working on now because they'll be picked in a few months during the summer. At the moment they're too small and sour. Persimmons come later, around February. They also have a small veggie garden where they plant lettuce, tomatoes and silver beet. They even have a mandarine tree (which I eat heaps of) and some other chores that I have not engaged in yet. They have three dogs: Roxy, Chrissy and Billy. Then they have wild geese, ducks and peacocks that have become part of the farm because they live in the property. It is a rather exotic and unusual feeling to wake up every morning around 5 am (am= in the morning) by the sound of screaming peacocks, kookaburra birds and geese. Especially peacocks are very loud, and it's impossible not to wake up. They even have a horse, and a few cows which I think is not theirs but that walk around to the property. And then they have a rather large pond/lagoon right in front of the house, next to it there's huge bamboo plants. They use Quad Bikes to get around the property. I will ask if they can show me how to drive it, and if I allowed to drive alone. Woo Hoo!

My chores on the farm so far is a little weeding, planting in their veggie garden, take care of  the peach/nectarine orchard, some random gardening, tidying of the garage (yesterday when it rained), feed the chickens and help to check the water lines to their orchard. The toughest thing is probably to take care of nectarine/peach trees because you have to walk up and down a steep hill, bending and squatting a million times as you reach on the lower part of the tree, getting blisters and sores on the hands and arms, getting thirsty and wanting to pee a thousand times under the hot sun and the worst part are the "farmers friends" (or also called "cobblers pegs") that stick on your clothes and are annoying as shit.

I also have the appetite of a farmer (meaning shitloads of food), sleep very heavily and try to hide my "city-girl" side. Though sometimes I can't help but show it.

When I don't work, I lie in bed either resting, daydreaming, watching movies or reading spiritual books. Also do yoga and meditation, stretching, eating snacks, listening to music or go up Upstairs and spend time with the Gugger family.

My room consists of the whole ground floor for myself (very private). I have a queenzise bed (160cm wide), a sofa, a desk, a private toilet and shower with bathtub (although we have to save water because they use rain water and for the most part solar energy), television (which I haven't used yet), a wardrobe (which I do not use) and a small cooking area with sink, but without microwave, stove or refrigerator (not particularly useful kitchen-area anyway) but with a water-boiler. My room is neither as cold or as warm as the second floor, so the temperature is quite stable. I haven't been cold a single night except last night when it rained all night.

The family says there are Dingos (a sort of wild dogs) in the area sometimes, but I have not seen any. However,  they told me that their dog (which has a short tail) was attacked by a dingo once.

Anyways. I think I have written enough for now. Please feel free to write a few lines :) I'll try to meditate more and be in the present. After all, there's something very peaceful and charming about being on a farm in the middle of nowhere. I saw a movie during the week based on a book by Jane Austen, called "Sense and Sensibility" that came on a perfect timing for two reasons: first I needed to get some perspective on love-matters, and second, it unfolds (like so many of Jane Austen's books) in the countryside. It was a good movie, good actors :)

Oh! Another thing; something that I love about living here is that I get to enjoy being around three lovely dogs (I have longed for the company of dogs!)
